Hi, does anyone know where I can download music for free..and legally?
Lots of my friends have limewire and bearshare etc and it's driving me crazy that there are lots of songs I want..but I just can't afford to download them all for 79p a time!
I want the music permanently too.
My parents won't let me download limewire or download illegally..so I'm stuffed really.
Help please?

There aren't any legal and free music download sites that I know of. Limewire, Morpheus, and all those other file-sharing services are usually illegal, that is, if you're downloading copyrighted songs.
You may be able to find some independent musicians with their own websites that provide some free music, but it's not going to be a big name that you'd hear on the radio.
You're best bet is to convince your parents to subscribe to a legal service like Napster, Yahoo! Music, or Rhapsody. There's a monthly fee for these, but at least you're not ripping off the musicians and the music companies.

I've found a website that downloads large files from anywhere on the web for dial up users - Download 4 me, has anyone used this service? What is it like?

I cant say for certain. It seems rather expensive to download a file. Are you in remote location that has no access to highspeed? I found a lot of internet cafe's that were reasonable and seemed fairly fast to dl. The most remote location was Cairn's but I know know Australia is a big place .. :)

I use a dial up connection to connect to internet. Usually the speed shown by my computer is 45kbps but when I download something from internet the download window shows that the speed of downloading is 2kbps. What should I do to increase it.

If I download a demo and want to buy the full version rather than download the full version first. Which way?
would I download faster? I found a game that the demo is smaller in size(MB) than the full version. I guess what I'm trying to say is if I download the demo and purchase when asked if I want to, would it be faster than downloading the full version which is 95.6 MB in size compared to the demo(33MB)?

When you use limewire on a windows PC, it will, by default, create folders in your user profile (c:\documents and settings\your username) called "shared" and "incomplete". Files that are downloaded completely show up in shared, while files that are started but not finished will be inthe incomplete folder. To see these folders, you need to make sure you have Windows Explorer set to view hidden files and folders.

Reply:If there's porn on the temporary internet files folder then the page he was on had to have contained those pictures. 99.9% of the time there are porn pictures he's on a porn site. There's no denying the evidence you have. He just plain lied to your face. Now that is a much bigger issue for you to deal with. In the history folder the actual sites would be listed and most of the time a website will leave a cookie on your computer for the next time you visit. Look for those and that will be the definitive evidence to whether or not he is lying.

If you don't know the difference between a .wmp (good) file from a .wmf (potentially very bad) file or a .zip from a .pif, then stay away from Limewire, Kazaa, and all P2P programs. The same is true if you don't know the difference between a song that is 25kb in size from one that is 3 mb in size. The smaller one is probably a Trojan, just waiting for you to infect your computer with.
P2P file-sharing is no place for computer novices. Even experienced expert users get infected using P2P at times.
If you must use P2P, always scan every file you download with both your anti-virus and your anti-spyware before you open it.

Bit torrent download speed assistance?
Hi there,
I have a Broadband internet connection of around 512kbps and yet when i download torrents, between around 12pm and 12am the torrents download at around 5-12kb/s and then around 1 or 2am they start downloading at between 40-100 kb/ps. Why is the downloading during the day so slow and tedious and is there anyway to speed up the download speed of torrents on bittorrent. Is bittorrent slow anyway and are there any other torrent sites that allow a much faster d/load rate but still have the same torrent files in them?

bittorrent requires other people with the file your downloading to be online and seeding that file at the time your downloading. Because bittorrent downloads small parts of the file from as much sources as it can at one time, the more people online seeding that file, the faster your download speed will be. When you download speed increases, it means more people have came online uploading the required file, and when it slows down, other seeders have gone off line.

Basically, if you want a file, you have to offer something in return. So when you finish downloading a file, start seeding it (it might happen automatically, depending on your client).
ALSO: The speeds at different times of day vary because of any of the following:

- The time difference (if your file is coming from the USA and you're in Europe - it'll get faster overnight! woo hoo!) [not always guaranteed!]

One thing that confuses people is that their connection is measured in kb (kilobits) per second but the download is measured in kB (kilobytes)
1 kB per second is the same as 8 kb per second

Download torrent from web is what you should do. However, don't use torrentspy. Just use isohunt.net
