Hi,
I'm using uTorrent at the moment and I'm not experiencing very fast download speeds - nothing like as fast as when I first changed to my current ISP (Sky) about three or four months ago. I've checked on uTorrent and I have forwarded my ports properly (I have a nice green tick) and I've done a speed test (http://www.speedtest.net) and my download speed is showing what it should - about 5650kbps. Yet, when I'm downloading I can only get around 110kbps.
I tried changing my port that uTorrent uses last night, but I'm still having problems. What could be causing this?
About three months ago I may have gone over my download limit so I could I be being capped?
Download speeds not very fast on uTorrent?
There's a lot of reasons why download speeds are not very fast on a torrent downloader software. Other than changing your port, it depends how many seeds it has. Usually, the more seeds it has, the faster the file downloads. Peers are other users who are connected and seeding the file and for you and everyone who downloads the file that they are seeding. So the more peers you connect with, the more it speeds the download rate up. Another thing is that downloading multiple files can sometimes, if not most of the time, decrease the speed of each file's download rate. Downloading one file while the others are paused will definitely increase that one file's rate up. Of course, it depends what kind of internet speed you have. If you have DSL, then it explains why it's not very fast. If you are using cable or any connection higher than cable, then you're fine. It all depends on how many seeds and peers you connect with.
Reply:Are you jumping on brand new torrents? The speed will depend on how many other people are on the torrent at the same time.
Also, are you uploading at a full rate? That will slow your download speed a fair bit. If, in Preferences, your upload speed is 0 (meaning unlimited), thenput it to 40 or 50 and see if that helps. Then set it back to 0 when you've finished downloading something to seed back.
Reply:It depends on how many peers are sharing/seeding the files. Popular files are usually easier to download. It will also depend on the upload rates of your peers. There are also trackers may give higher priority/download speed to those who are sharing files at a higher rate.
The more you share, the more you get from other users.
Reply:you could report it to your isp.................lol
Reply:consider that fast downloading from a peer to peer connection. u usually run about 42kB/s port forewarded and everything.... thats usual.
Reply:Call your ISP and ask them if they have reset your speed cap. My ISP forgot to reset mine once... so it does happen.
Also, try a higher port range.... I use 48001 myself and get good results, whereas the usual 6536 always gave poor speeds.
Good luck !!
Reply:well you should be getting around 500kbs downloads at your speed. But yeh i had the same problem with Utorrent, even with files that had 45000seeders and more peers. Try downloadind old versions of utorrent such as utorrent 1.1 or 1.6 as they have more stable settings and connections. If all else fails get azureus
Reply:dont forget it also depends on the persons pc your downloading from. Maybe they have a slow pc and that would make the download speed slow your end too.
Reply:If you are on a router make sure the ports in your router are "forwarded" or "unblocked" and choose a number such as 6656 etc.
Then in utorrent make sure that it uses port 6656 and you may find faster speeds.
It may be wise also if you do have a router to update the firmware. A lot of newer firmwares allow for UPNP (Universal Plug and Play) which allows utorrent (which suppoirts UPNP) to configure your router for access automatically.
Reply:Try torrents with better seeds .. bcoz there are less seeds or peers the download speed is affected..
Reply:A torrents speed always depends upon the torrent you download. Unless the torernt has good seeds it is very difficult to get desired speeds. Port is important and you can also type in google, how to speed up utorrent and try the tweaks they give you. I use utorrent I sometime have the same problem when a torrent is bad. Try another torrent.
Reply:Your download speed doesn't matter, its your upload speed you concentrate on.My download is set at unlimited.Do another speed check (i use auditmypc speed check) and note your upload speed. Now divide that number by 8 then multiply by 0.8 and set your upload speed to final figure. That should give you about 80% of your upload speed which is the norm.Hope this helps.
I run 1.6 and get good results.
Reply:well, mate just get azureus it maximes the download potential and if you want fast downloads check the amount of seeds and peers because if its low there isn't much chance of getting a quick download.
