So for a while now I've been thinking that I have a problem with ports not being open when I download because downloads will only go about 50kb/s or so, and my computer won't upload faster than 80kb/s. However, on occasion I can download at 350kb/s, or around there. Anyway, I did a speed test on my computer and it says my speed is 2254 kbps/686 kbps, which converts to about 281 KBps/85 KBps. So is it right to assume that my problem isn't with having no opened ports? My problem is only because of my speed? Or would downloads that now download at 50kb/s download at 281kb/s+ if I had ports open?
Question about Download/Upload speed?
DL and UL speeds are all based on how fast your downloading from or uploading to. If where you DL'ing from can only push information out at 30Kbps then your DL speed is going to be 30Kbps. Doesnt matter how fast your speed is rated at. same principle goes for ul speeds.
I have a cable modem, from certain websites i only get 71Kbps, its unbareable. But when i use a certain program i get 1.5Megs/s (Yes megabytes per second). The better the connection your host has the faster you'll be able to push information out or recieve.
