Download speed problem?

my download speed tests show that an average download speed is about 165-170 KB/s. But when I try to download larger files like 400MB, it takes more than 5 hrs at a speed of about 40-50 KB/s?! is this normal? what can i do to improve if there is a way.

this happens not in a torrent download, just regular rapidshare and megaupload type

Download speed problem?

Reply:Speed/bandwitdh your internet connection isn't good.

Use download accelerator s/w for increse download speed or use other internet service provider.

For browsing with better speed, use firefox. Free download at http://firefoxsupport.com/download.php
Reply:hey this happens because their server is busy

Reply:What type of connection do you have? Sometimes download these files that you mentioned could be dangerous. Who knows were that server is and how it is set up. But connection speeds and line from your house and place where you live, traffic on net and so many other factors cause your problem. I guess if you want the stuff be patient.
Reply:Actually speed depends on many factors.

Some are under your control, others are not. So talk to people at local computer store and see what updates if any will help.

You need good amount of contiguous space for quick down load so check that run De-fragment programme. See if you have good amount of space on your computer. If not add external compatible drive.
Reply:Solution for your problem is Firefox. You can get latest version of Firefox from firefox.ad.googlepages.com site. Try Firefox.
Reply:The speed of download depends on ....

Your computer's speed/space ---%26gt; Your internet provider's bandwidth / load. -----%26gt; The internet provider to the server, their bandwidth/load ----%26gt; Sever's capacity and load.

So consider yourself fortunate to have even that much speed.

Wait a few years, we can have GBPS downloads or even Terabytes per second.
